Murphy & Co. was founded in 1993 by James Murphy and Jason Murphy as a part of a key relationship with Accenture, the world’s leading management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company. That relationship included management services provided by Jim in his role as Accenture’s Chief Marketing and Communications officer.

In addition to Jim’s management role at Accenture, which included the leadership of 500 professionals around the world, Jason led and continues to lead Murphy & Co.’s marketing services to Accenture, primarily in interactive areas. Jim stepped down as chief marketing and communications officer in late 2007.

Based in Greenwich, Connecticut, Murphy & Co. expanded its client base in the late 1990s and the new century from Accenture to numerous other prominent organizations, primarily in the business-to-business category. Its services have come to encompass sophisticated brand positioning and management, client satisfaction research, and both traditional and interactive marketing services. A recent strategic assignment involved helping develop the basic naming and positioning approach for the merged information services company Thomson-Reuters.

Early clients included the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Mercedes Benz and Young & Rubicam. After leading the successful re-naming, re-branding and re-positioning of Accenture in 2001, Murphy & Co. expanded its full range of internet services, including emerging media and social media offerings both in the business-to-business and consumer sectors.

In 2004, Murphy & Co. opened a development facility and office in Guangzhou, China, significantly expanding its production and creative capabilities. In 2006, Murphy & Co. opened a third location in Charlotte, North Carolina. Currently the company employs about 80 professionals.

Other current clients include the Fluor Corporation, Prudential Financial Services, Duff & Phelps, and Robert Half International and a number of its divisions. In the consumer area, Murphy & Co. has partnered with other marketing agencies to provide internet support for a number of well-known consumer companies. That work has been heavily centered on Facebook and other social networking platforms.
